Saudi Cement Company Plans to Rehabilitate Two Kilns at Its Hofuf Factory

c- one of the biggest cement companies in the Kingdom - has announced plans to rehabilitate two kilns at its Hofuf factory.

The company, which recently announced a 4.5% increase in first-quarter profits to $90.7m, had already re-opened two kilns in December in a bid to meet growing demand in the country for cement supplies.

The two kilns it plans to rebuild in Hofuf have a designed capacity to produce 3,000 tons of clinker per day. It added that the kilns were likely to be restarted during the final quarter of 2013.

"Future announcements of additional information about this project shall follow the signing of the contract with the executing contractor," it added.

Last week, Saudi Arabia s King Abdullah initiated directives to import 10m tonnes of cement from overseas in a bid to head off shortages in the marketplace.

The King also instructed for $800m (SR: 3bn) to be made available to fund four new cement plants.
