The Tupelo Furniture Market broke new ground when a portion of it opened to the public for the first time, celebrating its 25th year in business. And Memphis-area merchants took advantage of the new format.

Market's new president Kevin Seddon said, "We've created an event within an event". The Furniture and Home Accessories Show is being held in Building I of the sprawling complex. There is no admission charge for the show and the public is invited.

"We are targeting soccer moms," Seddon said. By that he means, the Furniture and Home Accessories Show's exhibitors are aiming to draw attendees looking for clothing, jewelry, furniture and décor items for their homes.

Seddon said the show, with at least 100 exhibitors from around the country offering wholesale pricing, has plenty of quality merchandise, adding, "There are no retailers and there are going to be some deals in there."

The remaining five buildings of the market are closed to the public. As usual, they are open only to furniture retailers, manufacturers and materials suppliers.
