This collection of children’s furniture (stool, chair and rocking chair) is intricately designed and is useful for any parent. The framework has been made free to download by the designer from the FoldSchool website. It’s unfortunate they don’t do an adult range yet!
This might make a nice alternative to your traditional office! Although this is an artistic piece I’m sure it could be made with a purpose in mind. It’s fully recycled cardboard and was made in 5 days by 3 friends.
A beautiful patterning system and gives the usual dullness of plain cardboard a whole new and artistic feeling. The image possibilities, fluting wise, are endless. Any impression can be made, making a room extremely personalised by having whatever image created in the cardboard.
This is actually a cardboard sculpture. The reason I put this up is that it could quite easily be transformed in to a working clock. All that is needed is a battery mechanised clock face and voilà a wholesome piece of furniture that will create conversation in any environment.
The Wiggle Side Chair was created by Frank Gehry in 1972, available from Vitra. Frank Gehry is well known for his use of unusual materials. With his “Easy Edges” furniture series he succeeded in giving a new aesthetic dimension to cardboard. Although they look surprisingly simple, the “Easy Edges” pieces have been constructed with an architect’s skill and are exceedingly robust and stable. The materials used on this piece include corrugated cardboard, the edges made of hardboard with the finish available being natural or lacquered.
