According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in September this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) decreased 1.3 percent as compared to August and was up 0.2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. In August, production had increased by 0.2 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in September this year fell 1.3 percent month on month, while decreasing by 0.2 percent compared to September 2012. In August, production had increased by 0.3 percent compared to July, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in September decreased by 1.1 percent month on month and was up 1.1 percent compared to September 2012, while civil engineering output decreased by 2.6 percent from August and was down 3.8 percent year on year.
As compared to August, construction output in September increased in Slovenia by 6.2 percent, in Slovakia by 1.6 percent and in Hungary by 0.8 percent, while a decrease of 12.3 percent was registered in Portugal, a decline of 6.9 percent was recorded in Romania and a decrease of 4.6 percent was seen in the Czech Republic.
In the January-September period this year, construction output increased in Hungary by 9.3 percent, in Spain by 6.1 percent and in the UK by 4.9 percent, while a decrease of 14.9 percent was registered in Portugal, a decline of 11.8 percent was recorded in the Czech Republic and a decrease of 7.9 percent was witnessed in Slovenia.
