GREENSBORO, N.C. — The City of Hope raised $1 million at the annual Spirit of Life gala Saturday night and said the home furnishings industry contributed a total of $2 million for the 2012-2013 fundraising year.

Some 750 people filled a ballroom at the Grandover resort in Greensboro, N.C., to recognize this year's Spirit of Life Award honorees Neil, Steve and Michael Goldberg of Liverpool, N.Y.-based Raymour & Flanigan, and AICO CEO Michael Amini.

The money raised by the home furnishing industry goes to City of Hope's work to find cures for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.

At a cocktail party before dinner, City of Hope also announced that Jena Hall of Jena Hall Designs and Roger Friesen of Casana Furniture are stepping down as co-chairs of the National Home Furnishings Industry Executive Committee for City of Hope.
