High Point bedding newcomers say they are bringing fresh thinking to the mattress lineup here. And they believe their offerings will help them find their place on the highly competitive bedding landscape.
The bedding newcomers include Cellupedic and Campbell Mattress, who join more than two dozen other bedding companies exhibiting here.
Cellupedic officials say their airbeds, with individual air cells that can be adjusted to give each sleeper personalized comfort, are unique in the marketplace.
"Everyone is looking for the Holy Grail: Comfort, pressure relief and spinal alignment," said Terry Batka, U.S. sales agent for Cellupedic, the offshoot of a company that was launched in South Korea several years ago. "This bed does that. No other product in the world can make that claim. This is not another airbed. It's a bed with a brain."
Retails for the Cellupedic line range from $2,999 to $3,999. There are 120 air cells on each side of a queen-sized bed.
The Cellupedic beds will be shipped directly to consumers' homes and will feature a "white glove delivery" process, officials said.
California-based Cellupedic is showing in space 801 in the National Furniture Mart. The company is expecting visits from major retailers this market.
Also new in High Point is Campbell Mattress, showing on the second floor at 215 S. Main St. with Jacob Edwards Designs.
The Missouri-based company is a family-owned business, which sets it apart from many other bedding companies, said Terry Meece, vice president of sales for Campbell Mattress.
"Showing in High Point gives us a chance to expose our brand to people who have never heard of Campbell Mattress," Meece said. "We want to get our name out there. We are showing what a family-owned company can do, and we have an all-U.S.-made story. Retailers appreciate that."
Campbell offers lines of coil beds and specialty sleep beds, and features gel in many of its beds. It also offers fast-recovery memory foam and has probiotics in its mattress covers to decrease allergens and asthma, the company said.
Retails for Campbell beds being shown in High Point range from $599 for a bed in the Posture Form line of hybrid beds to $1,449 for a bed in the gel and memory foam line.
Traffic in the Jacob Edwards space has been good, Meece said. "We've had a lot of national players in here," he said.
