HIGH POINT — Universal Furniture is putting its musical talent on display again for a worthy cause.
After last year's widely viewed parody of "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen, the company has released a follow up lip-syncing music video.
This time around, the project will support cancer research efforts. For every view, the company will donate $1 - up to $10,000 - to the City of Hope.
The idea for the video surfaced after company President and CEO Jeff Scheffer lost a college friend to cancer last year.
"Keith's funeral was beautiful - great stories, great music - a fitting tribute to a great guy," Scheffer said. "The reception afterward featured a video of the crazy, zany things he did at work."
"Keith had an unparalleled zest for life, and I returned home with a new perspective," he added. "Sure, work is serious business, but there's nothing wrong with having a little fun, too."
So Universal staff created a video in which they lip sync a host of hit songs from the 1960s to present day, ranging from the Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and Sonny and Cher's "I Got You Babe," to Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" and Def Leppard's "Photograph."
Scheffer performs on a Wayne's World-inspired version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen and also does a serenade to licensing partner Paula Deen with "Girl on Fire" by Alicia Keys.
The video also highlights the company's emphasis on "good affordable smart design," a marketing phrase it applies to its brand and its licensed collections including Paula Deen Home.
