Due to the cold, wet weather in the last few months, logs are currently in short supply in broad sweeps of western Europe. The damp weather in autumn, the harsh winter with snowfall in the lowlands, and the subsequent periods of thaw all made timber harvesting and collection more difficult. The supply of logs for the woodworking industry consequently fell noticeably in the first few months of this year. Forestry representatives from France, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland met up in Zurich on 19 April to discuss approaches to mobilising wood.
