Throughout the summer, the retailer here collected unwanted used bikes -more than 100 of them that were then donated to Hamilton, Ontario's New Hope. Each customer who brought in a used bike received a $50 Stoney Creek Furniture gift card.
"We wanted to give back to the community," said Jim Fee, Stoney Creek vice president. "It was summer and we were thinking bikes, and we connected with New Hope."
"This has been a great partnership, a big success," said Andrew Hibma at New Hope Community Bikes.
The bikes will go to children and adults to provide a dependable means of transportation and a way to improve fitness, the retailer said in a release. Prices for the refurbished bicycles range from $45 to $300.
New Hope Community Bikes provides bicycles and employment and job training opportunities for youth. The organization believes bicycles help build a healthier, more environmentally friendly community.
