Process and packaging technology provider Bosch Packaging Technology has come up with a new patented energy recovery concept for hot water shower sterilisers.
This new technology will help users to save energy in heating and cooling during the sterilisation process.
The concept has been developed by Schoeller-Bleckmann Medizintechnik (SBM), which is a Bosch Packaging Technology company.
The system comprises a multilayer storage tank that is divided into several temperature zones and firmly piped to the steriliser through a heat exchanger. The temperature of water stored in this tank increases from bottom to top.
Temperature zones are prevented from mixing too quickly with the help of separation planes and the stored energy can be used to both heat and cool the steriliser.
SBM head of sales Isa Alkan said: "By re-using heating and cooling energy, the system lowers the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) - not only for hot water shower sterilizers from Bosch but also for those from other manufacturers. Moreover, it can be simultaneously used on several sterilizers."
The company states that by using existing cold water from the storage tank, manufacturers can reduce the amount of additional, costly cooling medium. Energy can be stored in the storage tank's different temperature zones with the help of an intelligent control system.
After the reloading of the steriliser, the energy that is saved in the multilayer storage can be used again to heat process water to a temperature of 121 degrees celsius.
Speaking about the use of the technology for manufacturers, Alkan added: "Apart from the saving potential in heating and cooling, a lower amount of overall media consumption also leads to smaller tank sizes. With these savings, companies contribute to environmental protection and can optimize their 'green' image."
