Patio chaises and lounge chairs have an increasing presence in an outdoor lifestyle. You can see why. Stretch out on your patio chaise lounge for a couple of hours in the sun and you get your vitamin D, feel relaxed, and maybe better equipped to deal with the hassles of every day life.
While traditionally used around the pool, a patio chaise or lounger can be equally at home on a roof top, terrace, sunroom or a deck.
Gloster, a well known name in patio and outdoor furniture, has come up with some chaise lounge chairs for all different style preferences. While you can find Gloster's outdoor furniture in many different materials , the company is best known for its teak furniture.
Here is Anassa, one of Gloster's outdoor chaise lounges, which demonstrates how outdoor chaise lounges have evolved over time to become show stoppers in their own right.
This chaise has a teak frame and a woven seat, back & side panels and is from Gloster's Anassa collection which also has sofas, dining sets and several other pieces. This is a look for more traditional spaces.
This chaise has a teak frame with sling seat panel and can be adjusted to five different back positions. The lounger has gently scrolled arms and seat back and is paired with plush cushions featuring bull-nosed edging.
Teak is prized for its ability to withstand the effects of sun, rain, frost or snow. It can hold its own in any climate and is easy to care for. Gloster uses kiln dried teak in its outdoor furniture. This process makes the teak even hardier. Read more about the kiln-drying process here: Why are Kiln Dried Sofa Frames Better?
Gloster claims that all its teak is sourced from sustainable plantations.
The Azore stacking lounger is available in Frost or Slate finishes with White or Charcoal slings. The frame is powder coated aluminum with a sling seat and back. Here it is featured in Slate. The arms feature contrasting, textured oval extrusions.
Sling is increasingly being used in modern patio furniture because it is comfortable and practical. It offers support, and yet conforms to your body.
This lounger is also easy to maintain since aluminum is one of the easiest materials to care for.
Designed by Danish architect Povl Eskildsen, the Vigo lounger is one of the more affordable loungers from Gloster.
Vigo has a durable, fully welded and brushed stainless steel frame, that is combined with the a Charcoal-colored vinyl sling seat and back to create a bold, contemporary look. If you feel that you need added headrest cushioning, that is available, too. As for the back, you can adjust it to any one of a number of positions.
Gloster claims to manufacture its patio furniture with 304 grade stainless steel, which is the industry standard for outdoor products. While stainless steel is generally resistant to corrosion, salt water or airborne chemicals can cause brown spots on the surface. You might notice them sooner if you live in a coastal area.
This spotting can be easily remedied by gently rubbing with a pad from time to time. If these deposits are allowed to accumulate, you may need to use a stainless steel cleaner.
Similar to Vigo, the Fusion lounger also combines a stainless steel frame with a sling. But Fusion's uniquely finished sling also has an optional addition: a color-coordinated sling storage shelf. The chaise can be adjusted while seated to 4 back positions.
Sling is a generic term for a woven, open-mesh fabric which is made from a vinyl coated and strong polyester yarn. Gloster offers slings in combination with teak and stainless steel in addition to powder coated aluminum that you usually find.
To maintain slings, it is best to simply clean them occasionally using a non-foaming cleaner. A foaming product can end up depositing residues in the gaps in-between the weave which can potentially serve as a dirt magnet. You can also hose off slings with a low pressure setting, but make sure to avoid the frame.
The Wimbledon collection combines teak side frames with low-maintenance sling seat and back panels. This lounger also features a unique, innovative gas strut, and countless back positions at the press of a button.
For its sling furniture Gloster uses Textilene woven vinyl. This material is quite resistant to fading, mildew and impervious to frequent use and changing weather. However, slings can be easily upgraded or replaced should the need arise.
Maintaining teak is also not very complicated. Teak furniture can stay outdoors without needing to be stored away.
