For installing a garage door, you would require a garage door large enough to enable your car or truck to pass through it, ladder, torque tube, garage door installation guide, weatherstripping, screwdriver and nut driver, screws and a drilling machine.
Procedure for Installing a Garage Door
The first step is to seal the underside of the first panel with the help of weatherstripping and attach the nails at such an angle that the door is placed in a proper position. Further, follow the garage door installation manual and gather all the required pieces for the vertical, curved and the horizontal tracks.
Next, attach the brackets and the roller to the first section of the garage door and fix the vertical tracks on the roller on that section of the door. The same procedure should be followed for the rest of the three sections.
In the next step, ensure that the door is properly leveled and further plumb the vertical door. Also ensure that all the screws are attached properly and are in proper position. Next, attach the jamb brackets along with the tracks and then attach these brackets to the framing members. Once the tracks get adjusted, make the lag screws tight.
Now, it's time for installing the curved and the horizontal tracks by bolting them together. In this step, inspect the leveling of the horizontal track and cut the rear hanger of the track. On completing the cutting part, fix the track hanger to a blocking and mount the track on it. Here, care should be taken while mounting the track.
The same procedure can be followed for the second horizontal track. Further, fix the door in its proper place and also check for the track alignment of the door. If you haven't planned for a garage door opener installation, then installing a torque tube would be a better option so as to ensure trouble free opening of the door. The last step is to ensure that the door shuts properly.
