The Project Would More Than Triple Volume of Australian-Made Recycled Paper

Australian Paper has launched an online campaign to gauge community and commercial support for the use of Australian recycled paper.

"To help secure investment approval for a local deink (recycling) pulp plant at our Maryvale site, we need to demonstrate strong customer, government, industry and community support and increased demand for recycled paper in our domestic and New Zealand markets," said Australian Paper CEO Jim Henneberry.

"Our pre-feasibility study estimates that such a plant could divert up to 80,000 tonnes of white paper waste from local landfills," he said.

The project would more than triple volume of Australian-made recycled paper.

"We are passionate about Australian-made paper and want to continue to invest in sustainable, world class products," he said. "I'm asking all employees of Australian Paper and the rest of the community to get behind this important project by signing our recycled paper pledge. We need as many people to sign as possible to help show the size of the opportunity."

Pledges of support can be lodged here.

Australian Office general manager, marketing, Martin Rodger told Stationery News that the company is presenting the capital request for approval in July and, consequently, needs as many pledges of support that it can muster.

Latrobe City Council has been one the first organisations to 'pledge' its support for the recycling initiative.
